Recognizing The Scale, Calling The Experts

In early 2024, Diamond City Equestrian approached long-time partner Southridge Construction with an ambitious vision: to build one of the largest indoor riding arenas in Western Canada, now proudly named Gait N’ Rein. Southridge immediately realized the scale of the project and knew it would require expert collaboration. They reached out to our team to engineer something extraordinary—124-foot clear span roof trusses, surpassing our own previous Western Canada record of 120 feet.

Mega Trusses, Minus the Limits: How Our Team Delivered Big

Once the design plans were approved, our truss production team got to work. Despite the harsh Southern Alberta winter, production began on February 14, 2024.  Our crew manufactured and delivered nearly 114 two-ply trusses, each an impressive 124 feet long. The trusses were delivered to the farm just outside Diamond City, where Southridge carefully bundled them for installation. The length of the arena was just over 300 ft.

With the help of JBEEZ Truck and Crane Service Co., the massive trusses were lifted into place. This process took just over a week to complete.

Style & Scale: Wrapping the Structure in Forma Steel

After the frame was up, our sister company Forma Steel stepped in to supply and install the exterior cladding. This included:

The structure’s iconic cupolas were finished with Forma Steel’s Copper Penny FC-36 roofing and Arctic White Shiplap cladding. These added a distinct visual flair to the facility.

Western Canada’s New Landmark: Built to Inspire

Clearly visible from the nearby highway, this arena is not only an engineering feat but a visually striking addition to the Alberta landscape. At 124 feet, these trusses mark a new regional record in clear span design and stand as a testament to what teamwork and innovation can accomplish.

We at Structural Truss and Forma Steel are incredibly proud of the dedication shown by our designers, fabricators, and logistics teams in turning this bold vision into reality.
